Mango-Lime Cashew Sauce

When enjoying crab cakes as the main course, it’s a nice touch to add a tasty sauce and side of vegetables. Crab cakes can also be served over a bed of arugula for a light salad, as arugula has a unique peppery flavor that really enhances the crab cakes. A mango-lime cashew sauce is the perfect side for your dinner, and it’s quite simple to make. To make your own sauce, you’ll need:

  • 10 ounces mango, peeled, removed from seed
  • ½ cup raw cashews
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon-style mustard
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • ¼ rounded teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • ¼ rounded teaspoon sea salt to taste

Simply place all of the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. When making ahead of time, refrigerate the sauce, but allow it to come to room temperature before serving. The sauce makes the perfect pairing to a crab cake served with vegetables and potatoes, as well as a salad dressing.

Smoky Onion Remoulade

This smoky onion remoulade is a great way to impress your date this Valentine’s Day! Remoulade originated in France, and is an elegant sauce to pair with your romantic crab cake dinner. To make the sauce, you will need:

  • 1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • Kosher salt
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons minced chives
  • 1 tablespoon minced shallot
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne
  • Smoked sea salt

Preheat your broiler, and on a large rimmed baking sheet, toss the onion with oil and Kosher salt. Broil for about eight minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow to onion to soften and char in some spots. Take the onions out and allow them to cool, then finely chop. In a medium bowl, whisk the onion with mayo, vinegar, chives, shallot, chili powder, and cayenne, then season with smoked sea salt.
