What’s your favorite type of pizza?

What’s your favorite type of pizza?

Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the world, but it varies depending on the country or city it is made. In the U.S. alone, there are many debates about which state has the best pizza, as they are all very different in style and taste! Continue reading to learn about five of the most popular pizza variations in the world, then come visit us at Box Hill to try our famous pizza!

Italian Neapolitan

The authentic Neapolitan pizza is actually protected by European law as a cultural food heritage, and its production and ingredients are closely monitored. To be a real Neapolitan pizza, the only ingredients that can be used are highly refined Italian wheat flour, Neapolitan or fresh brewer’s yeast, pureed San Marzano tomatoes from Italy, mozzarella cheese, all-natural and fresh basil, and extra-virgin olive oil.

American

American pizza is very different than the original Neapolitan style pizza, but over the last century, numerous distinctive pizza styles were developed. Some of the most well-known styles include Chicago’s deep-dish, New York’s thin crust, and Detriot’s twice-baked style. At Box Hill, we serve the classic and delicious fresh dough New England style pizza.

Italian Lazio

Italian Lazio style pizza originated from Rome, and remains popular today all over Italy. It is made in a rectangular baking pan with a thin crust or the standard oval shape. There are many variations of this pizza, but some of the most notable are Pizza Romana, made with tomato, mozzarella, anchovies, oregano, oil, Sicilian-style pizza, in which the topping is baked directly into the crust, and White pizza, which doesn’t use tomato sauce.

Australian

Australian pizza is densely filled with cheese, eggs, and many sea products. In the 1980s, several Australian pizza shops began selling pizzas that were made with exotic and expensive ingredients, such as salmon, tiger prawns, emu, and crocodile.

Exotic Pizza

Some of the most original pizzas fall are labeled as “exotic,” as they don’t fall into a traditional category. For example, the Deep-Fried Pizza from Scotland is a notable exotic pizza, or the Chocolate dessert Pizza made with candy, peanut butter, marshmallows, and other tasty toppings.
