Once again, Box Hill’s famous crab cakes are receiving recognition from the community. WBALTV, a local news broadcaster, polled their readers from Facebook on which Baltimore restaurants serve the best crab cakes. Once votes were counted, the top 10 restaurants were named. So why did Box Hill receive another top crab cake nomination? Well it all began in the August of 1984. The Kanaras family, made up of brothers Tom and Chris, father George, and mother Demetra, opened the doors of Box Hill Crabcakes in Abingdon, Maryland. Tom and Chris were owners of the restaurant and their parents supported their endeavors, helping to shape the restaurant into a family-friendly favorite. Throughout the years the family owned and operated business of Box Hill has worked to perfect our family recipe and keep it a well-kept secret.
Our crab cakes start from the Maryland Blue Crabs that are delivered to us daily to ensure their freshness. Once the crabs are examined for size and weight, they are seasoned to ensure their perfectly balanced flavor. We pick our blue crabs to guarantee our crab cakes are shell free and have only the best meat. We use a lightly seasoned filling to hold our crab cakes together, but we never allow the filling to overpower the taste and presence of authentic Blue Crab meat. Our crab cakes are cooked to please each customer, so the choice is up to you!
